Berks Ends Season with Loss to Keuka

Penn State Berks ended the 2009 season defeating Morrisville State and falling to Keuka College on the second day of the North Eastern Athletic Conference Volleyball tournament Saturday afternoon.

The women opened up the day defeating top ranked Morrisville State in a thrilling five set match (20-25, 25-20, 13-25, 25-21 and 15-7).  The Nittany Lions took the momentum from the fourth set win and jumped out to a commanding 8-2 lead before taking the final set 15-7.  Jerica Detsch (Junior/Dieruff) recorded a double double with 16 kills and 15 digs in the match.  Krista Stancombe (Sophomore/Nazareth) led the defense with 18 digs while Alyssa Stefanick (Freshman/Panther Valley) assisted on 36 of the teams 43 kills.   

Penn State Berks entered the second game needing just a win over Keuka to advance to the final day of the NEAC Championships.  The women came up a little short falling to the Storm in four sets (14-25, 25-21, 22-25, and 18-25).  Rachel Sweeney (Freshman/Bethlehem Catholic), Jerica Detsch and Suzi Shelton (Freshman/Daniel Boone) each contributed 10 kills in the loss.  Glenda Ngo (Freshman/Annandale) assisted on 27 of the teams 37 kills while Krista Stancombe ended the match with 23 digs.
