Strong Second Half Leads Berks to Win

Penn State Berks (4-5) used a strong defensive effort in the second half to notch their second straight victory defeating Morrisville State (2-10) 56-37 on Saturday afternoon in the Beaver Community Center.
The teams struggled to get going with Penn State Berks falling behind 8-5 over the opening nine minutes of play. The opening half saw three ties and the lead change hands six times with neither team holding more than a three point advantage. Penn State Berks would hold a 20-19 lead heading into the locker rooms.
The Nittany Lions came out of the locker rooms and used a 16-1 run over the opening seven minutes of play to take control of the game. The Mustangs of Morrisville State managed just three field goals in the second half and shot just 10.3% in the half while the Nittany Lions shot 14-28 in the half to coast to the win.
The Nittany Lions held the advantage on the glass out rebounding the Mustangs 66-42 in game. Berks shot 23-66 in the game good for 34.8% while holding the Mustangs to 11-66 shooting just 16.7% for the game.
Courtney Bailey (Senior/Dauphin Co. Vo-Tech) led Berks with her sixth double double of the season with a game high 19 points and 15 rebounds. Sam Wescott (Freshman/Cedar Crest) finished the game with 10 points on 4-16 shooting and Jamie Norris (Sophomore/St. Pius X) turned in a solid game with 4 points, 9 rebounds and an assist.
Morrisville State was led by Tekesha Hanson with 18 points on 6-22 shooting while Bette Davis contributed 10 points in the loss.
The women will return to action tomorrow when they host Cazenovia College at 1pm in the Beaver Community Center.
