Women Cruise to Fourth Straight Win
Penn State Berks (12-8) and Penn State Abington (4-16) made up their game that was originally scheduled for this past Saturday on Monday evening in the Beaver Community Center with Berks coasting to a 73-54 victory.
The two teams opened up the game trading baskets before the Berks Nittany Lions built a ten point lead at 23-13 over the opening 10 minutes of play. Jasmine Harris-Kane (Junior/Simon Gratz) and Steph Binder (Junior/Wilson) led the way scoring 8 and 6 respectively during the run. Penn State Abington would get to within six points of Berks the remainder of the half before Berks went into halftime up 30-19.
Penn State Berks started off the second half on a tear pushing their lead up to twenty-nine points with 13:38 remaining in the game. The Nittany Lions of Abington would chip away at the lead and get to within 10 points of Berks but could not get any closer and eventually fell to Berks 73-54.
Penn State Berks forced Abington into 23 turnovers for the game and won the battle on the glass out rebounding Abington 46-37 for the game.
Jasmine Harris Kane led the way for Berks scoring 18 points on 6-15 shooting including going 5-6 from the foul line. Steph Binder turned in another solid performance contributing 17 points and 6 rebounds in the win. Courtney Bailey (Senior/Dauphin Co. Vo-Tech) ended the night with 17 points and 7 rebounds in just 15 minutes of play.
Penn State Abington placed two players in double figures with Samantha Frick leading the way with 18 points while Kerri Gallagher contributed 15 points in the loss.
The women will return to action Wednesday when they host the College of St. Elizabeth at 7pm in the Beaver Community Center.
