Men Fall to Morrisville for Season Split
Penn State Berks (4-14) dropped their sixth consecutive outing as they fell to Morrisville State 67-59 on Sunday afternoon.
The Nittany Lions controlled much of the opening 20 minutes of play in a half that saw three lead changes and five ties. Penn State Berks found themselves tied 5-5 just two minutes into the game and used a 9-2 run over the next five minutes to build a seven point advantage the largest lead of the half. The Mustangs would battle back and eventually tie the score at 28 going into halftime.
The host Mustangs used a strong second half shooting 48% in the half to come away with the win. Morrisville came out of the locker rooms and built an early five point advantage with 19:03 remaining. Berks put together a 13-2 run to build a 41-35 lead with 15 minutes left to play.
The Mustangs battled back to tie the game at 48 with eight minutes to play before taking control for good. Morrisville State put together a 15-3 run over the next five minutes to build an eleven point lead and never looked back.
The Nittany Lions were led by Vonte Shippen (Sophomore/Norristown) who finished the game with 15 points and 6 rebounds. Dontale King (Freshman/Gettysburg) and Adam Fusco (Senior/Norristown) contributed 11 and 10 respectively while Kemian Flowers (Sophomore/Wyomissing) grabbed a team high 8 rebounds while scoring 8 points in the loss.
Morrisville State was led by Kyle Gordan with a game high 19 points and 6 rebounds. Ron Tarver finished the night with a double double scoring 13 points while handing out 10 assists.
Penn State Berks will return to action Saturday when they host Penn State Abington in the second game of a men's and women's doubleheader. Tip off is scheduled for 3pm in the Beaver Community Center.
