Men Snap Six Game Skid with Victory over Penn State Abington

Penn State Berks (5-14) came off of an eight day layoff and snapped a six game losing streak by defeating Penn State Abington (5-15) 70-55 on Monday evening in the Beaver Community Center.
The Berks Nittany Lions battled to five ties and three lead changes over the opening six minutes of play before Penn State Abington took control of the half. Berks trailed 12-11 at the 14:03 mark when Abington held them to just one basket and put together a 10-2 run to lead 22-13 with just under eight minutes to play in the half. Penn State Berks came alive after a Kemian Flowers (Sophomore/Wyomissing) dunk and put together a 9-2 run to close the half and go into halftime down just two points 24-22.
The second half saw the lead change hands five times over the first eight minutes of the half. Dontez Reid (Freshman/Gettysburg) connected on his second three of the half with 12:18 on the clock to give Berks a 34-32 lead. Reid's three started a 17-7 run over seven minutes that gave Berks a 51-39 advantage at the 5:33 mark. Reid contributed five points during the run and Michael Perone (Freshman/Middlesex) connected twice from behind the arc to fuel the rally.
Penn State Abington had one last run in them as they got the lead down to 56-53 at the 2:14 mark. Michael Perone put a stop to their run connecting on his fifth three of the game pushing the Berks lead back to six with under two minutes to play. Abington was forced to foul and Berks connected on 7-10 foul shots in the last 1:15 of the game to seal the win.
The Nittany Lions were led by Michael Perone who finished the game with 15 points shooting 5-12 and going 5-10 from behind the arc. Kemian Flowers had a solid all around performance finishing the night with 15 points, 8 rebounds, 4 blocks and 2 steals. Dontez Reid scored a career high 14 points while handing out 3 assists on the night.
Abington was led by William Alton who scored a game high 17 points on 7-14 shooting. Corey Curtis and Francis Hennessey were the other Abington players in double figures with 13 and 11 respectively.
Penn State Berks will return to action Wednesday when they travel to Phoenixville to take on Valley Forge Christian College at 7pm.
