Men Place Five in Double Figures to Notch First Victory of Season


Penn State Berks (1-6) placed five players in double figures and notched their first victory of the season with a 92-83 win over Keuka College (2-3) on Saturday in the Beaver Community Center.

The Nittany Lions used a strong shooting performance including shooting 60.6% from the field in the second half while committing just seven turnovers in the contest. 

The visiting Storm jumped out and took control of the game early opening up a 21-13 lead with ten minutes gone by in the game.  The two teams would battle the remainder of the half with Keuka holding no more than a six point lead.  Penn State Berks scored five points late in the half to go into the locker rooms down 36-35. 

The second half opened with the teams fighting for control with seven lead changes and three ties over the opening ten minutes of the second half.  Jeff Schmidt (Sophomore/Parkland) connected on a layup at the 10:17 mark of the second half to give Berks the lead for good.  Schmidt's layup started a 15-7 run over the next five minutes that was capped off by a Kemian Flowers (Sophomore/Wyomissing) layup at the 5:27 mark to give Berks a 71-61 lead that they would not relinquish. 

Adam Fusco (Senior/Norristown) led the way for Berks with 26 points on 8-14 shooting including going 8-10 from the charity stripe.  Dontale King (Freshman/Gettysburg) scored a career high 15 points on a perfect shooting night going 6-6 from the field and 2-2 from the foul line.  Kemian Flowers added a double double with 12 points and 12 rebounds in the game. 

Keuka was led by Calvin Logins who recorded a double double with a game high 31 points and 14 rebounds.  Alex Coleman rounded out the scoring for the Storm with 18 points while grabbing 7 rebounds in the loss.

Penn State Berks returns to action on Tuesday when they host cross town rival Albright College.  Tipoff is scheduled for 8pm.
